I've gotten a lot of grief lately for my prediction back in May that when Obama released his May fundraising totals they would only come in a little over $20 million. My prediction was based on looking at Obama's fundraising totals for the months of February, March, and April and noticing a disturbing trend of him raising approximately $10 million less each month. Applying that trend forward I came up with my May prediction. Having said all that is there a new trend developing?
As most of you are aware from reviewing past monthly fundraising totals Obama's average donation is roughly $100. So that is why I was surprised in a good way when I looked at this tracker on Obama's website.
http://my.barackobama.com/...
As you can see the graphic shows that since last Friday, June 20, 2008, over 101,000 people have donated to the Obama campaign. Multiplying that number by the average donation Obama has garnered in past months and one gets $10,100,000!
Now some caveats, this is based on using Obama's past monthly average donation numbers, the average donation leading to the numbers since last Friday may be considerably less.
Moreover, a good five days of fundraising well not be enough. Obama will need to keep up this pace for the rest of the month so that (1) he can raise twice as much as McCain/RNC and (2) to make up for his lackluster May fundraising numbers.
No complacency. If you can donate please do so. If you cannot please take a weekend and contact your local Obama campaign office to help with their voter registration efforts in your area. I will be doing a diary on voter registration numbers for June during the first week of July.
